4th Annual Carolina Century Bike Ride Inline Skate October 22 2011 Greensboro NC

MikeB's picture

Look for the 2011 Carolina Century on 10/22/11. A proven EPIC event. More details to come......most certainly. :-) http://carolinacentury.com

[Ed: Thanks, MikeB, for putting this out there early! From here on out this is roadskater speaking.]

With a bike to skate ratio of 15 to 1 or so...This is a bicycle event designed by roadskater to be compatible with slower or heavier cyclists, fast cyclists looking for a rolling but fast course with few challenging turns and no switchbacks, and experienced roadskaters. The Carolina Century even has a sherpa/domestique who will ride in support of a first-time centurion (or a pack of them). Thanks to John Connor for being the Carolina Century guide. We'll be rolling along near the back to make sure that the rest stops stay open and well stocked.

The 51 and 102 are slightly more technical for roadskaters with very good braking skills, but experienced long distance skaters will find only 2 places requiring special attention (fewer such spots than at Athens to Atlanta, for example). Newer roadskaters will enjoy the scenic 31 if they can do the miles, but the 21 is still a nice course mixing suburban with rural scenes. There is no urban section as one would find at A2A. This is not a race and we are on open roads and expect you to follow the laws as a cyclist should. We will not have police making your way for you at intersections and we will be glad for you to go as fast as you can safely do, but our goal is to raise money for people with multiple sclerosis and to represent our sports as best we can. We want you to come try out our specially picked roads and to meet our favorite people!
