Rolling in Randolph Review: 50-Mile Skate (Bike Ride)

This was a day of many firsts. The first time anyone has skated in Rolling in Randolph, at least I am pretty sure from the reaction we got from everyone, the first-time Roadskater was represented here, and 50 miles for myself. Blake and Elizabeth met me on a chilly morning as everyone was busy readying themselves for the skate/ride. Many bicyclist showed up for the event, some from as far away as Pittsboro and Charlotte, most of them to ride the century. That is quite an accomplishment on any kind of self-powered wheels. We made some new friends and everyone had a good time.

Roadskater.net Tour to Tanglewood Team Gets Speedskateworld.com Skateylove

eebee pointed out that we got some more skateylove from Speedskateworld.com and they even lifted a photo of our team to show us off to their world. Peter Doucet does a great job of his own photos and videos, plus gathering links and creating content on his site, and he's surely a speedy skater too. I get lots of the same items in my news searches but Peter actually takes the time to write and share. Thanks!

Roadskater.net Classic Inline Skating & Cycling Photos

This is a quick first hack at getting some 2007 photo links over to the new Roadskater.net from RSN Classic (rsn1.net). There will be much more later, and I won't even go into it all now. It's been "in the works" (meaning in my brain) for almost two years now. I don't want to do it until I can do it "right," and the way I want it to look.

ZDF Inlinerdays 2007, Mainz, Germany - Backwards Skating 10K World Record set

Picking on the Germans again. They are doing a heck of a lot in Germany to promote skating. Thanks to Peter Doucet's http://www.speedskateworld.com/ for pointing me over to the latest WIC photos. The 30k speed race took place this past weekend at my old hang-out: Mainz, Germany.

Inline Skating Hill-Training Progression

To follow up on my previous post, earlier in the summer, after I had started my hill training for T2T and A2A (Tour de Kale and Tour de Lions too, for that matter!), here are my conclusions about how I should expect my hill training to progress, based on training, performance and perception this year.

Tour to Tanglewood 2007 Bike Skate Photos

The 2007 Tour to Tanglewood was my ninth, all on skates, all including both days. The Roadskater.net team was 36 members, 18 on skates, from NC, GA, MI, NJ and NJ (born in USA, Canada, Netherlands and UK). We were missing a few regulars because of the North Shore Inline Marathon in Duluth, MN and for other reasons. I hope you like the 420 photos that made it through editing!

Recollections of Tour to Tanglewood 2007

Tour to Tanglewood was a blast this year. Full of friends, skating, tornadoes, sun, hills, cookies, purple, wind, missing luggage, canceled flights, and gloriously bad singing.

After the 6 Tour to Tanglewoods I have been fortunate enough to skate in, the whole gathering to me is starting to resemble a huge family of 1,500, and growing every year. Each part of the weekend brings its own joy:

North Shore Inline Marathon 2007: Scattered Memories of a Wheel Sucker :-)

Arriving to 50 degrees in Duluth on Friday was quite a change to the 90 degrees weather in North Carolina... Luckily, the Internet world was buzzing with the forecast of chilly weather for a while and I was fairly ready to cope with it. Still, it’s been a while since I have skated in a 30 degrees weather and I was not sure about several things, the biggest of them all – wheels.

Looking for 84mm wheels for T2T

I have done it again.  I purchased some explore wheels that were cheap ($1.60 per wheel) I forgot what brand I bought last year.  And it turns out these wheels are just slightly irregular, they don't fit in the 2nd and 3rd position in my frames. They bind on the sides.  I am in need of 4 84mm wheels 83a or 85a hardness.  If anybody has some they would be willing to sell me before the skate on Sat.

Tour to Tanglewood 2007 Roadskater.net Team Dinner Lucky 32

2007.09.14 6:45 pm
2007.09.14 9:00 pm
US/Eastern
Here's another event, and this one's important if you can manage a reply, so I can plan for dinner. Things may change but as it stands we'll shoot for being at Lucky 32 by 6:45. The main thing to reply about is "will you attend the team dinner this year, wherever or whenever it happens to be?" The team dinner, like the Prologue Skride, is optional and open, but may not be too interesting to those not skating or riding or visiting the tour. You may add invitees to either RSVP. Let me know ASAP! I'll have the jerseys at dinner as well.

Ken's Bike Shop Winston-Salem NC Tour to Tanglewood TR Photos

We had a nice dry day and homegrownmatt showed up briefly to say hi-bye before streaking off on his knobbies to chase down some roadies. It was great to see him, and even better to have some Mexican food later on with him at the best Mexibuffet I have ever seen at Cuco's in King, NC. The next time you're up on US-52 looking for some great tasting food, check it out.

Carolina Cup 2007 Bike Race Photos Country Park Greensboro NC

During a weekend full of fun and necessary preparations for the Tour to Tanglewood next week, plus with some birthday cake and 28 miles of skating loops at Greensboro Country Park on Saturday, we ended up back out at the park on Sunday afternoon for the Pro/1/2, Women's Open and the start of the Senior Cat 3 bicycle races. We walked the 1.65 mile loop in the opposite direction of the racers and took photos as we ambled along.

Ironman, the Melodrama: A Diabetic Brother, Oprah Winfrey, a Herniated Disc & an Ironman Challenge

A few distant friends asked why I quit inline racing. To make a short story long, below is the answer.

Ironman the Journey

I looked at the freshly opened gel pack: is it gonna make me puke or save me from meltdown? My lower back ached at mile 7. 19.2 miles go to. This Ironman thing was hard.

"Midlife Crisis. I can't afford a Porsche."

"Lost a bet."

"Can't find Tour de France on active.com."
