We had a great time at the Bikestock 2007 bike ride, inline skating the 34-mile
route in the heat, but wishing for clearer air than on that yellow AQI day.
Little did we know the next week would bring even hotter, 100-degree days!
Bikestock folk were wonderfully friendly and welcoming, and we appreciated their
generosity and kindness. The first fifteen miles were mainly uphill, then there
was a rough stretch that was extra tough on skates. We were glad to be back in
North Carolina for the road surface on that particular road. What a challenge.
On the day, I wondered if I'd try it again, given the combination of hills on
rough road and some downhills that required braking (having not been on these
roads before it was even more so). Were we glad we did Bikestock? You bet! It was
and tough but we left with a sense of accomplishment, and two really cool Bikestock
tees! Thanks Mt. Airy, NC and parts of south Virginia, for good times and great
views...and not a single car honking all day!
