Alright now, this is the best reason to sign up for the full 87 mile distance A2A 2009 as soon as they post the date and registration forms. Don't sign up for the 38, because you'll miss this sight (and don't sign up for the 52, because it's too painless).

I bet you've had a skate tool taken now and then at airport security, right? I did. I had a somewhat sentimental first edition roadskater.net (home-branded) long handle Allen wrench taken when I boarded with my skates, forgetting to put the tool in luggage. They were entirely uncaring and unhelpful of course. Maybe USPS could have Priority Mail boxes and APCs there and we could mail them to ourselves! The government would make some money but at least in the service of us keeping our personal stuff, instead of them making money off our personal stuff. Huh?

Check out this article on Shani Davis, who was amazing last year in the World Cup season (indoor long track) and has taken three of four individual events in his specialties this year already. The news may be aimed at the X vs. Y junk (now that elections are mostly over) between Davis and Hedrick, who joined with Trevor Marsicano to place 2nd in the team pursuit, but the most important part may be the photo (apparently from the 2006 Olys, eh?).

It looks like I'll have a bit of extra free time, sadly, and a bit less life, particularly the life of watching cycling via internet streaming video...for 2009 at least. In the year that Lance Armstrong may be coming back, it seems he won't be coming back to the Tour de Georgia because it won't be there according to the foundation that owns the tour.

Hi to all. Some of the first photos to show up are the ones by Amy in charge of the 12- and 63-mile Rest Stop, who was ably assisted by many, most notably by her mom, Margaret. Thank you both for making it possible for me to sleep a bit in the days leading up to the RSNCC, knowing Scalesville Fire Station was covered. You helped me feel good enough to skate on the day, too, so thanks! Check out the pics. I took around 700, so it'll be awhile!

For those who don't know we had 8 skaters (4 from Georgia, 4 from NC) and 57 cyclists at the inaugural Roadskater.net Carolina Century (carolinacentury.com), which raised $1025 after expenses. The proceeds will be donated in the names of the volunteers to the MS society (or at their option to select charity cycling events that benefit individuals with sudden catastrophic challenges in their lives).

Carolina Century Inline Skate Bike Ride 2008 Report: 102 Leaf-Catching Miles![]() Submitted by eebee on November 13, 2008 - 12:36am.
It's an idiotic compulsion of mine to buy new speedskate boots and skate 102 miles on them three weeks later. I love it so much I've done it twice: once in 2003 at Cruisin' in the Country in Claxton, Georgia, and once this past weekend in the smooth Piedmont of North Carolina at the first-ever Carolina Century to benefit MS. Other than earning myself a nice set of double-ankle-bones, I had an easier time skating for 10 hours than I had anticipated.

the basics: So let's rewind to last year. I dragged in second place overall AND the 3rd place OA is a good friend of mine that i know i can beat any given day. so last year i decided i was racing the 52 mile option (out of a choice of 38, 52, 87).

A story in today's local paper details a new independent literary bookstore that has just opened in the resurgent Glenwood neighborhood of our fair city. Pretty good reading. I'll have to pay a visit sometime.

Well the Tour de France route for 2009 has come out, and there's some new old stuff, like the Team Time Trial is back. Some say this makes Lance Armstrong more likely to show up, some say less, and he seems to want some assurances from the organizers about respectful treatment or some such. Meanwhile Contador sounded welcoming at first, but lately perhaps less so, and Vino's name has surfaced as well. Nothing solid here from me...just some impressions.
Skatin' Ain't Cyclin' but Draftin' is Still Draftin' Even on Hills! Cycling, Maybe Inline Skating, the Big Hills![]() Submitted by roadskater on October 24, 2008 - 12:19am.
Well not much to say here but there was a pretty interesting little piece in VeloNews wherein they attempted to answer whether drafting was a good idea on hills or is it just down to the power of the individual skater...i typed that but i meant...cyclist.

While working on development of a route I have been using mapmyride.com and have found it very useful, but when it comes to a left off of Vernon Rd onto Sandy Cross Rd to get to the store at Sandy Cross (upon the location of which Google, Yahoo and Mapquest seem not to agree), everything goes hayougetoffomycloudwire. Part of the road is missing from the map overlay, but it's clearly visible in the satellite view (though in some sat views I can see the road blocks from some previous construction destruction.

I watch free TV, meaning I have an antenna (up in the attic no less, as I'm not sure I want to attract lightning, deal with installation woes, and risk the oak trees damaging the antenna when limbs land on the roof). I receive digital broadcasts, and don't pay for cable television (but do for internet). On good days I can get programming I would not get on cable, including broadcasts from Durham, Raleigh, Roanoke and more. Some days, however, I admit I have trouble getting WXII in Winston-Salem, or WUNC-TV from Chapel Hill or Winston-Salem.
