Useful 48-Hour Weather Data Links

Today's weather reminded me of a couple of links I use regularly to look back at weather conditions after an event or workout. Sometimes I even save the image in an email or in my notes about the event.

Old Battleground Road at Guilford Battleground NMP: Easy to Fix Danger

Greensboro wants to get bigger and better. Well there's no point in getting bigger if we don't get better, is there?

I applaud Greensboro and Guilford County and the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments for their efforts for bike-ped plans and greenways. I applaud BIG and as ever Tour to Tanglewood hero Dale of Cycles de Oro.

Joey Cheek Writes about Darfur on World Refugee Day

While looking for information on the World Cup, I came across an editorial by Joey Cheek for ESPN.com's Page 2 section.

Skating William B. Umstead State Park

Raleigh recently was hit by a storm that did some damage to some of the trails which have been discussed on InlineNC and TSC, but I was lucky enough to skate the Capital Area Greenway before that.

Carolina Hurricanes Win Their First NHL Stanley Cup

OK well I'd better just say hey northinsouth we love you but we're glad you're not too happy today! This is because North Carolina just won its first professional sports championship (unless you consider getting a free college education makes you a professional, as I do). [That's North Carolina, or Carolina as a unit, including that other part split off long ago so we couldn't have too much of the best mountains, piedmont and beaches.] Of course, it would be more interesting if the players had to be from the area with the name of the team, but that's not the way most pro or university sports work, eh y'all?

NYC Central Park traffic closure withdrawn

Transportation Alternatives has announced the withdrawal of Intro 276, which would have closed Central Park to all motorized traffic for the summer. Please read the press release, enjoy the increased car-free hours that we have won, and stay tuned for more activity that will make New York a better place to roll under your own steam!

My skate route

I'm interested in descriptions of where people skate for their training, i.e. whether road, trail, track, parking lot/deck, hilly (if so, how hilly and how do we compare?), flat, loop distance, or if A-Z and back again, busy or not, hazards, typical weather conditions, etc. I don't own a gps yet so can't give any hill data on my skate places.

Tegaderm - 8th day

About 6 Tegaderm patches later... I now finally see a pink loop around the wound. It still hurts, and actually more so now than 1 day post-wreck. There's still about 1.5 inches diameter circle of goop in there.

Ezee fit booties

We discovered these ezee fit ankle booties last year and LOVE them for blister prevention - especially with stock boots. They are a neoprene anklet that you wear under your socks to take up all the little gaps and give you some cushiness between your ankles and those hard carbon fiber boots.

Farmington founder's day parade - skate routine

So I wanted to tell you all about the other thing that we do on skates - dancing! Every winter we put on a party with routines to music - the Skater's Winter Snowball in Farmington, and every summer we put together a routine for the parade (also to music). Here is a link to video and pictures of this years snowball (see who you can recognize!) http://www.cdsdetroit.com/2-25-06-swsb/page.html

Skweight Management Week 1

With weight fluctuations just as I expected, in this past week I gained as much as 1 lb and lost as many as 3 lbs. However, today I am 2 whole pounds lighter than I was 10 days ago. It's good to lose weight slowly but surely. I don't necessarily feel like I've lost any weight, but as Jack said about himself, I feel much more energetic, and definitely stronger.

A first time A2A skater's training

This year will be my first skating A2A - after last years cancellation. I have struggled to find good information online about training for this unusual event and thought it might be helpful to others to document my training and end result.

Official Invitation for Skaters to Join MUSEP GVC rides

Tonight at the T2T kickoff event, which was very nice in several ways, John H officially invited skaters to join in the GVC MUSEP rides, (so we can call them skrides now, at least amongst ourselves).

I think it's important to be sure we're up to their no-drop speed so we're not last, but after a couple more weeks we may be there, most of us. On the coffee shop ride we were never last even in our hardly trained state, so that was a good thing to find out.

Sweet Spell Checker for Internet Explorer

I know downloading software may be against some rules, and I usually am careful, but after using the IESpell spelling checker for awhile, I'm pleased. I'm not much for checking spelling sometimes, thinking I couldn't possibly make mistakes, ha, but I've used the speller often and like it. I say it's worth the download, and of course I recommend that after you download to the desktop or wherever, you scan what you downloaded for viruses and such just for fun. Usually in XP you can right click on a file and choose a scan command if you have some antivirus software installed. So this is encouragement to take the extra steps to get a free, worthwhile tool, if you like.
