Clemmons Bicycle is our favorite mid-30ish-mile route among the Tour to
Tanglewood training rides, so we really looked forward to the ride this year.
We had another amazing day of cooler temperatures than surrounding days, so
while still hot enough, we were not suffering temperatures near 100. Probably
from poor rest, I had a higher than usual heart rate by about 20 beats per minute (!) as I
sat on the bumper of the car before starting, so we knew we should take it easy
on the way out of town on this day. I didn't lead much for the first third as I was
taking lots of photos, and after that, we rotated based on relative heartrate
as much as possible. As the day wore on, I was handling the hill maxes fine but
my HR was not dropping on the glide as fast as usual even for me, so I was working pretty
hard all day despite not getting much speed out of it. Oh well. I burned more calories!

We had a great time of it, but were dismayed at rest stop two (provided by
the shop) closing with people left on the course. We knew there were riders
behind us on our route and on the longer route too. I'm sure next year will be
different, as the tour will provide whatever resources it takes to keep rest stops
open until the last riders pass through.

Many thanks to Clemmons Bicycle for hosting the Tour training ride and
especially for treating the skaters with a friendly welcome. It really is a great
course with lots of nice views and some fun hills
