Dutch Win but USA Men Do Well in the ISU World Junior Speedskating Championships in Zakopane Poland. Outdoors! Beautiful! Photos

roadskater's picture

The ISU World Junior Speedskating Championships took place in Zakopane, Poland last weekend. Wow. This event like it would be amazing fun for participants. I'm not sure about spectators if they didn't like the cold. But look how beautiful it was there! Well a bit snowy some of the time for skating maybe? Who cares!

The event has a nice website with some good photos. If you have a minute to watch the video...do it.

There are several nice photos on the website from each day of the event... I'm leeching a few in smaller size here in hopes you'll go visit to see the full size ones and the other nice photos there. This is all for our mutual education, of course, and I mean it.

Many skaters had one of these two kinds of boots below, especially the black with tan.
Check out the low back and no socks!

That's 3 dudes skating aerodynamically (check the hands and shadows). Amazing!

Did you get that? That is a photo of THREE GUYS skating in a pack! Wow.

The USA Men did well, placing in almost all events, and taking 2nd and 3rd in the overall...

The Dutch skaters Roxanne van Hemert and Koen Verweij were crowned ISU World Junior Champions this week-end in the Polish resort town of Zakopane, which welcomed a record-breaking number of 128 skaters to its new artificial rink.
...
The team pursuit contests were won by the Dutch team both among the ladies (for the eighth time in a row, they have won this competition every time since it was introduced in the junior championships in 2002) and the men (for the fifth time in a row).
The report is here at sportcentric.com and it is the source of the results data...
