The Elon Tour to Tanglewood Training Ride saw a nice group of five Roadskaters
and three Roadskater.net cyclists, so we got to do some pack skating...and pack
eating afterward across the street! The route was great with one challenging uphill
that led back down into a T-intersection at a Stop, but we managed that fine. I
was having a tough day with experimental fixes of my boots not working, requiring
the rest to wait a bit for me, and to listen to me whine and complain and make
excuses. This was also in the wake of my 125-mile day several days before, and
would say that was a factor. Regardless, the thin plastic chopping blocks I put
under each foot didn't work to ease my pain, so it was back to the old insoles and
double socks, with more experimenting in the future. At the decision point, three of us
voted to do the shorter route (we usually don't do the longest distance unless there
are cyclists at our pace doing it. On this day, there were, but we opted to stay
together and keep our five-pack intact. Now I believe we could have made it without
delaying the tour volunteers and staff, but at the time I was eager to vote shorter
based on my feet and ankles. We got back more quickly than any of us expected,
and I'm sure we could have made the longer, hillier route fine! Arrgh!
