ISU Long Track World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships 2009 Richmond CAN Olympic Oval Four Days of Free Internet TV

roadskater's picture

After last week's Salt Lake City (Kearns) Utah championships, where Shani Davis set two world records, the speed skaters head for what they say is the slower ice of Richmond, BC, to the oval where next year's Winter Olympics will be contested. There's controversy over whether the Canadian hosts have been allowing teams free access to the rink, but i don't care so much about that. If they want a home rink advantage, so be it. If they want to seem gracious and accomodating, so be that too.

It's all good either way. It's their country and their rink. They seem to have an advantage anyway when you think about all that ice time up there on the frozen rivers and canals. Olympics are not about countries and corporations are they? Otherwise if they were, we'd see commercials and country flags and medal counts. No it's the love of sport, my fellow Earthling.

I say this after only mentioning Shani Davis and the USA last week, but that's mainly because I had no time to find out what happened after trying to find video of it all, heh.

But this week will be a preview of the next WOlys and it's all going to be available live and free via streaming video (internet tv as some call it). Let's hope it goes well. I don't want to spend as much time trying to get this as I did not getting last week's action.

Four days of free, live streaming of world cup speed skating...

Watch Day 1 Single Distances Speed Skating Champs Free On Demand

If you missed the fun yesterday they got the video package ready overnight so you can now watch Day 1 of the ISU Long Track Single Distances Speed Skating Championships free on demand courtesy of UniversalSports. Thank you NBC Universal for this! I guess I'll hold off on telling you what happened for now. Also I will be telling you later how to save this stream so you can use it to educate yourself on skating form and inspire yourself to look beautiful while skating. I used internet exploder (jk) to view, but you might try firefox, chrome or opera and compare cpu usage (seemed like ie was more efficient perhaps because of silverlight or edgestreams being involved). Day 1 included... Men’s 1,500m Ladies’ 3,000m http://www.universalsports.com/mediaPlayer/media.dbml?&_MODE_=ONDEMAND&D...

Welcome. On Demand World Cup Speed Skating Available.

Hey thanks for thanking. Sometimes methinks nobody hears what I'm saying or reads it or agrees or whatever insecurity may be hanging around like smoke in me brain. It was good stuff and lots of it. I actually watched some of it on French Eurosport television either in French (which is mostly babble to me) or with the UK audio. It's a bit complicated to get this but I'll tell more later. For now just look for info on the tvants p2p tv application (or tvu or sopcast). But the UniversalSports.com website offered a really interesting feed, consisting of nice camera work before events sometimes (you could see them lacing up, stretching, stuff like that). There were no TV announcers in the feed, just the sounds of the rink, including English (Canadian) and French (Canadian) announcers during the events, and a slightly annoying but well-intentioned newbie type announcer between events...more like some radio station personality who knows zip about it. But these sounds were mostly turned down, especially during races. During ice replinishment it was pretty much a static view but OK it's free and it's more like being there than any TV broadcast. Good stuff! Most of the Richmond events are up as "on-demand" video, so you can go watch them any time you like! Go watch some viddy so they'll know we care about speed skating. There's also short track and more long track from earlier in the season. Also they carry other human powered or gravity sports so there some cool stuff there. I saw part of a running marathon, ski jumping, biathlon (cross-country skiing with rifle shooting), plus some downhill ski racing.
