Ottawa, Home of Sweet Pathways

roadskater's picture

Oh boy I went up to Ottawa with Craig and did pretty poorly in that there National Capital Marathon, but after much pain I guess I finished all right. Anyway, what a neat weekend it was getting to see the countryside, the animals, family and friends, and skating some incredible sweet pathways in awesome scenery. I can't cover it all now, but maybe later. For now, check out the photos on http://roadskater.net/index.htm the roadskater classic website.

Now to the point of this posting. It sounds like Ottawa is one of the cities that gets it right for cyclists and skaters alike, celebrating this week...

...one of North America’s most extensive recreational pathway networks, as well as the 36th season of Alcatel Sunday Bikedays on the Capital region’s scenic parkways.

Congrats to the skate club that says yes up front...OUISC...

This morning, along the Rockcliffe Parkway, groups including Alcatel Switchbacks and Ottawa Urban Inline Skating Club, Citizens for Safe Cycling and Ottawa Public Health were recognized for the special workshops, including free bike and equipment checks, helmet fitting and inline skating clinics, that they offer to visitors on Sunday mornings.

And last but not least here's' a spot of contact info:

Contact the NCC at (613) 239-5000, 1 800-465-1867, or consult the NCC website at www.canadascapital.gc.ca/biking.

I don't think, ok I know, I'm not in any form to do the marathon this year May 27 and 28, but it would be great fun to visit Ottawa again.

That was a fun event.  I stayed with a pack through most of it but lost them with a few miles to go.  Blake and I went downtown and skated behind the parliment buildings and down along the canal.  It rained for most of that day but was still fun.  Blake got to see where I used to skate so that was fun to show him around.
