The Clemmons Bicycle Tour to Tanglewood Training Ride is my favorite route by a slimmer margin
than in years past, but still a great one. The new owners have not quite put the full
spirited effort at superior rest stop support that most shops are doing, but things
were better than last year. This year the first stop was in a good spot and had great
help, but they didn't have any cups. Most of us had bottles or packs, and I'm sure this
was an innocent oversight. The Tour stop with Val and Elaine was of course spot on as ever!
The third stop had no ade, just water, which is better than being closed like last
year, but this is the point where the people out there the longest are needing electrolytes
the most. This is a big mistake in my opinion, when you have hundreds of cyclists
out, it's your chance to shine! In any case, we were all fine and it's a reminder
to bring a zip of skaterade powder for boosting water or paleade to relevance. We had seven
skaters, I think it was, and three took the shorter route, two blasted off on the
longer route, and two did the longer route at a more moderate speed (including myself).
We had only one irritable motorist syndrome incident and it was only a matter of
a limp middle finger that missed me as target pitifully. It was a sweet day out
from my point of view!
