Paul's Cycling & Fitness is hit or miss, I guess I'd say, over the years, when
it comes to Tour to Tanglewood Training Rides. This year they didn't have turn
sheets for the 50-miler and apparently didn't mark the road at one split on the
section with no turn sheet. There were improvements in the route, though, and they
are always nice at Paul's. The rollout was a few minutes early, which is not good
for anyone needing those last four minutes for some reason. After we became unsure
of the route on the 50, we went back to the 35, turning that route into a 40-miler
we could trust. My bad for deciding to go on a route based on route markings alone
when I don't know the area too well.
Thanks again to Paul's Cycling & Fitness in Winston-Salem and to the Tour to
Tanglewood staff and volunteers for another fine, if sometimes frustrating, day
on the road. Any day with 40 miles and a safe return for all is a great one.
