six roadskater.net t2t team members (four cyclists and two skaters) rolled at the special
TODAY WE RIDE FOR DAVE event, called by some the DAVID SHERMAN MEMORIAL RIDE, in
high point, nc. it was a great day of exercise, smiles and tears, as almost 600 riders,
lots of volunteers and a significant showing of the high point city police
joined to honor a fine human being who died needlessly. we all have work
to do to make our roads safer for ALL drivers and other road users, since more people
than we thought must be out there repeatedly driving badly, repeatedly driving without a
proper license, not showing up for court, but remaining free.
we do not have to be filled with hatred or fear to take action on this. we can be motivated
to act for our loved ones who drive, ride or otherwise use the roads. but we can't
let ourselves fail to act once our incredulity and anger have diminished.
thanks to all who helped create joy from sorrow on dave's day. clearly, he still
lives in the actions of his family and friends, and now he lives within those
of us who were not fortunate enough to know him. now we do. i am so glad i didn't miss this
fellowship of humanity in david's honor. though i do not know who is who in my photos
even now, i met love in the faces and hearts on the road, from the houses along the way,
and at the finish. i wanted to savor the feeling, so i skated around the parking lot until dark,
ending the day with sweet tea and good conversation.
