Always a favorite, the 2007 Tour de Lions took place in very fine weather for inline skating and road cycling...it was cool but sunny and not too windy. The whole community around Franklinville and Grays Chapel UMC (in a community called Lineberry on some maps...a familiar name since Fred and Brenda Lineberry are the event coordinators) donates their time and door prizes so city folk like us with fancy lycra cycling shorts and tights and expensive bikes or heat molded inline skates will visit to get back to the country they came from (some of them) and enjoy beautiful North Carolina's scenic byways. We opted for the 50K on our inline skates, with two other roadskaters choosing the 20-mile option. These community rides are great, and Tour de Lions benefits the local folk, especially those with vision impairments who need assistance the Lion's Club gives. The meal after the ride is an event in itself, and everyone made us feel like it was "old home week" as my grandma used to say. Some events are over as soon as you can get your stuff in the car, but Tour de Lions is one you wish could go on all day.
