It's been reblogged many times but I just saw this:

China's Police Women on Inline Skates with Three Inch Heels for Backup Elegant Authority, Plus Checks with Stripes

Now for more silliness about skating police around the world. A few years back it was the Paris police, now we have candidates from China and Israel. We loves us some skating so don't gets us wrong, skating is great...but not necessarily the way to chase criminals. However, as a light and easy patrol with interactions with the friendly locals, sure, it could be great.

The China story is funny for the high heels and the Israel video is good to listen to for the stupid things the narrator says. I hahed at checks and stripes. Credit to eebee for earlier disgust at some of this topic before, making it stick in my brain better.

China, South Korea, Netherlands Strong in Speed Skating at the Harbin World Winter Universiade (University Games) Photos

There's a whole lot of skating going on in Harbin (Haerbin) China. I've been following some of the stories and looking at photos this week, without a whole lot to say about it, since I don't know much about these young athletes.

Here's one way to find some good stuff...

Inline and Ice Speedskater Joey Cheek in China for Darfur

While working on the site a bit I heard a story on NPR about George Clooney and Joey Cheek and others visiting Egypt and China in an effort to get some attention and aid for the refugees in the Darfur region of the Sudan. It is amazing how long we have let this go, myself included, without taking any real action. I am glad someone has time and focus to apply to this, and I am happy that a skater is converting fame to benevolent action.
