2014 Berlin Inline Skate Marathon Video

Here's another skate marathon video (helmet cam) from Europe in 2014. The road surfaces look great! Video is over 1 hour long.

The packs start to thin out after about ten minutes. Closed roads. Church bells. Bystanders cheering. Tramlines. "Paß auf!". Street musicians and the Doppler effect.

2012 BMW Berlin Marathon Inline Skate Finish Video

Per Bill Begg on the Bont forum, this year's Berlin Marathon had a total of over FORTY-EIGHT THOUSAND (!!!) participants! This spread out over skaters, hand cyclists/wheel chair athletes and runners. About 6,800 were skaters. Not too shabby! And they had beautiful weather this year as opposed to the driving rain they had in recent years. The skate portion of this event happened last Saturday, Sept. 29th.

Here's a pretty good video of the final few KMs, of eventual winner Ewen Fernandez of France, and Bart Swings of Belgium, showing the beauty of this sport.

I'd like to see ALL the footage taken from these cameras during this race. The way these two skate is so pretty, frankly I can't handle it.

The Film, D Tour, on Independent Lens, plus ISU Berlin World Cup Replay Package on Universal Sports Online

I have been out of touch for a few weeks after some long distance skating and the prep and skating and wrap (still ongoing) of our Roadskater.net team charity efforts. Last night was the awards dinner for the Tour to Tanglewood, and it was a transitional day for several reasons, all good. Then I came home wanting to get some computer work done and maybe watch some tele, mostly something meaningless and useless.

Watch Hours of Free Internet TV Speed Skating (Long Track and Short) On Demand and Live with Highlights and Recaps

Oh I am so sorry I didn't look this up before, even when I saw press releases earlier this year. I just never quite got to it until now. But now is good too. If you wish you could see long track and short track ISU world cup events on your television, well you might sometimes, but on your computer, you can see many hours of video from this year's world cup season in both track formats. I've only watched a bit but it looks and sounds and feels great!

Rainy Berlin WIC Photo

What a great place for a finish line! With Berlin's Brandenburg Gate in the background, I'm assuming they're on Unter den Linden. Last time I was on that street there was a big, ugly wall cutting it in half - profanely colorful on one side (West) and stiflingly bland on the other (East). Good to see a previously fractured site now the setting for joyous play...or is it fierce battle? :-)
