Taylor Phinney Blogs Through the Burning Hot Hills of the Vuelta a Espana Tour of Spain Pro Cycling Race

While we've been focusing on the USA Pro Cycling Challenge somewhat, the Vuelta a Espana is well underway, just not on my television. Well, neither is the USAPCC, but I've been finding ways to get a look in through the kindness of strangers. Anyway, I took a look at the Universal Sports page at the bottom there, which links to Taylor Phinney's blog here...

There's something very relevant about these descriptions of pain and doubt. Something very easy to remember, but easy enough to forget, so we go out and do it again. Phinney has a good way of expressing it so that even those of us who've never been front runners like he has can at least know we share some of the same emotions and sensations.

USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado Follows Tour of Utah with Top Tour de France Riders and Great Routes in the Rockies

I don't have a lot of time to discuss this right now, but I wanted to say that the upcoming USA Pro Cycling Challenge looks like a breakthrough event for the USA in terms of hosting major tours. Yes, the Tour of California had lots of talent and beautiful scenery, and the Tour of Utah built up to another level this year, but the USAPCC is a chance to see the top Tour de France riders on what look to be some great routes. Here are some links...

Glasgow Scotland UK 2014 Games Bring Inline Skating and Cycling Velodrome

As part of the Commonwealth Games in 2014, Glasgow, Scotland, UK will be getting an indoor cycling velodrome which will also house an "inline skating facility." I wondered if that might be a banked track within the velodrome like they have in Florida and Colorado (outdoor tracks, both), or if it will be just some area to skate in while cyclists fly by on a wooden track. That's not so bad! I wondered if there's any chance inline skating will be included as a demonstration sport, but the list of sports, while including netball, fails to include skating as far as I could tell.

Floyd Landis Makes 48 Mountain Bikers Happy

While waiting for news of his fate, after a very strange hearing including threats, firings, secrets unveiled, and lots more mental gymnastics, Floyd Landis made his way back on the bike in Vail, Colorado for a mountain bike race. He made 48 people very happy by placing 49th. Imagine finishing ahead of the "then current" Tour de France champion in any kind of bike race!
