Obese Women Age 18 to 20 Found to Have Over Twice the Risk of Developing Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

A new study finds interesting information on the time of life that obesity may affect a woman's chance of developing Multiple Sclerosis. In studying data from 200,000 women over 40 years, researchers found that obesity in late adolescence and early adulthood (18 to 20 years old) doubled the chance of developing muliple sclerosis later in life.

...a surprising finding was that the results showed a significant link to increased MS risk only from obesity during adolescence, but not during childhood or adulthood.

Skate Boston: Inline Skating Roller Road Skating Festival, August 1-3, 2008

2008.08.01 6:00 pm

Not much available on this festival yet, but some of the Boston skaters have come down to skate Tour to Tanglewood with us, so maybe we can find a way up to see them. I wonder about the train, if it might be competitive at these gas prices? It'll be much later if I can decide to do it. I wish I could have been there last week in fact for a geek con up there. Great skaters and a great town equal tons of fun. I don't know much about Skate Boston. Anyone here been? The website is http://www.skate-boston.net but I think they're not ready for us as of this writing.

Researchers Find Gene Triggering Multiple Sclerosis

I don't know much about the subject here, but this article caught my eye as a significant find in the search for the genes contributing to Multiple Sclerosis. [We skate Greensboro's Tour to Tanglewood to help raise money for MS research and treatment.] A quick explanation from the article helps explain MS briefly:

The disease is one in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the electrical insulation of nerve fibers. The cause is part genetic and part environmental,...
