Bicycle Toy & Hobby Sales gaves us a great skate and ride last weekend, even considering some rough road (not the worst gatorback by far, but not as great as the rest) on the spur out to and around Abbotts Creek. We had nice skaters, 4 veterans of T2T and 5 who have yet to experience the glorious weekend...but most plan to.

Here's the speed map from the Spinz bike shop training bike ride and skate in High Point, Archdale and Sophia, almost up to Caraway Mountain. We maxed out at 35 or so but some of it felt faster because of the country side, lay of the land, and curve of the roads. There were some stiff climbs and it was a fun day of skatey company even if we weren't all at the same speed all the time. The rain at the end gave eebee a little spark since that's childhood weather for her methinks. Jack, eebee and myself cruised in after the others had departed...I think that was Andrew, Kim and Amy and I hope I'm not missing anyone here...we were not all really together before the start!

Spinz Bike Shop is a relatively new sponsor but they did a lot last year at various charities, not just the Tour to Tanglewood. I went to their skride last year and met Andy there. We had a good time on some nice roads. Of course any ride starting in a town named High Point ends with some kind of uphill run! We had a great time and they were mighty friendly to us at the shop.

The training rides for "Tour to Tanglewood" are about to begin in a couple of weeks. These rides are all well supported, generous rest-stops, sag wagons, and of course great people. It is a good way to hone your skating or biking skills depending on your particular preference, and you are supporting a great cause and helping people who can't skate/ride like we can.Â

This is a quick first hack at getting some 2007 photo links over to the new Roadskater.net from RSN Classic (rsn1.net). There will be much more later, and I won't even go into it all now. It's been "in the works" (meaning in my brain) for almost two years now. I don't want to do it until I can do it "right," and the way I want it to look.

The Bicycle Toy & Hobby training ride is usually the last one of the year, barring rain dates, and its a great time to pick up packets for the Tour to Tanglewood, so lots of riders show for this one. It's downhill out of town and uphill back into town along mostly five-lane and four-lane roads with mostly good natured motorists along the way. Out in the country, the route followed familiar Tour to Tanglewood roads in some places. A rougher surface loop proved a tough blend with the hottest temps of a T2T TR this year, but we made it fine.

Yesterday morning, I joined Blake and Andy to skate the final training ride for the 2007 Tour to Tanglewood. After several warnings that this would be the hottest weather of all the training rides this summer, we set off from downtown High Point at very nearly the official starting time of 8:30 AM.

I enjoyed the Spinz Ride a lot and had a chance to share a nice sunny morning with our newest local Roadskater in the hills around High Point and Archdale, NC. Sunflowers brightened the day significantly, and we made our way along well enough. Spinz did a great job of hosting and we appreciated their welcoming us.
