Hi and welcome! TourtoTanglewood.com is a special part of Roadskater.net for anyone who loves, or thinks they might grow to love, the awesome 2-day 90-mile Tour to Tanglewood skride for Multiple Sclerosis. Here at Roadskater.net we have a charity inline skating and cycling team, and we'd like for you to join us for the Tour!

The world, the internet, cycling and the art of sharing lost a major force in the form of Sheldon Brown, whose work remains at SheldonBrown.com. He was an incredible resource of cycling knowledge. By all accounts he was also a man of good humor and skateylove (bikeylove) too. Many accounts tell of his helpfulness online, by email, and in person. Timv has mentioned Sheldon often to me in our various discussions, including where I might find out more about my 1980s Centurion bike, learn about fixies, and much more.

Thanks to Dale at Cycles de Oro's welcoming ways, I showed up on skates for a couple of the Cirque du Cyclisme rides and had the pleasure of seeing lots of classic bikes and the people who love them. Timv was there on his classic bikes, and eebee joined in on Saturday for the leisurely tour of Greensboro.
What another satisfying, smooth and sufficiently challenging Tour de Lions event! We arrived for registration at 7.30am, grabbed some bananas and other carbs, plus coffee, all provided by the event and its volunteers. The weather was sunny but brisk at about 50 deg F.
I've been knocking these rather trivial, large-scale thoughts around my head for some years now and wanted to write something about them. Last night, whilst watching 20/20, was the final straw! This post might complement KJG's questions in Monotony of Training.

I recently purchased a recumbent exercise bike to ride after my daughter goes to bed, as it is hard to get out as much as i would like with a 2.5 year old. Its nothing fancy, a Proform XP110 from Sears. I had a magnetic trainer for my road bike, but it's noisy and it just feels unnatural to be in that position on a normal road bike and not move for 30 minutes to an hour.
Things that have been on my mind, none big enough unto itself to warrant a blog entry:

Knoppix recommends having at least 128MB of RAM "to use the various office products," but even 256 can be pretty painful if you do much of it, and 512MB is way better.

Please give to the people who help the people with Multiple Sclerosis. If not here, somewhere. To give to the 2006 Tour to Tanglewood Roadskater.net Team, please visit the pages below and pick someone, especially someone with under $200 in donations, but anyone on the team.

This weekend, Danny, of the Bicycle Response Team for the Tour to Tanglewood, said Dock Davis road was out. This is the bottom of the last rush of adrenaline in the Tour on day 1.
I rode loop 1 with Tom on Saturday (more later) and loops 2 and 3 with my parents while visiting them on Sunday. (We rode in a car.) I took photos and sent them to Michelle and Suzanne et. al. at the MS Society and it looks like now there's a route change. This is sad in one way, in that this is a beautiful stretch of nice road. On the other hand it will be great for next year that some of these older bridges will have been replaced.

Absolutely. The Anniston Star gets it right in their opinion that shows their excitement about the "bridge in the middle of nowhere" and the paving of the last sections between Anniston AL and Smyrna GA hopefully in 2007. We've been there and we've seen the growth in ways we love and hate, but have to look upon with awe.

If you're looking for a great skate vacation with a good cause, consider North Carolina in September. It's a beautiful state and a great time of year to enjoy the country roads that meander along our rolling hills.

This is CycleNC.com, a place for anything related to Cycling in North Carolina, including favorite routes and events, efforts to share the road, create more greenways, and especially represent the sport through participating in charity efforts.

Please vote in our Tour to Tanglewood polls, available under view/polls (you need to be a member to vote, sorry, as we try to keep out junkbots). Here are the specific t2t polls as of this date:

I've set up some "handbooks" or "books" under view/books that will serve as frameworks for us to get our guides to the Tour to Tanglewood going. One of these handbooks is for out of town visitors mostly, to help them make their way from airport to hotel to Vovlo Trucks N.A. and to know what to expect regarding luggage, camping equipment and other gear. It could also be useful for locals who have not booked hotels before in Clemmons. The book, which starts out mostly empty until we all write it (join the site if you'd like to help write anything on the site) is located here:

This is a book for us to share training plans and tips for preparing to bike the 2-day 90-to-145-mile Tour to Tanglewood from Greensboro, NC to Clemmons, NC and back. This guide is aimed at cyclists who want to train for the tour.

Greensboro wants to get bigger and better. Well there's no point in getting bigger if we don't get better, is there?
I applaud Greensboro and Guilford County and the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments for their efforts for bike-ped plans and greenways. I applaud BIG and as ever Tour to Tanglewood hero Dale of Cycles de Oro.
Which do you think works best as the single publicized name for the alliance website? The North Carolina Active Transportation Alliance website is in the planning stages. This page lets you vote on domain names and comment on features you might like on the site in advance. Results are tallied by Borda Count, sometimes called "a consensus-based electoral system" where each choice gets a point for every choice ranked below it. Thus, with 9 choices, a 1st place vote gets 8 points. Please click the title for more info and to rank....
Note that if you only vote on the names you really like and leave the rest unranked, you boost those names you prefer, as with no rank at all a name gets no points. The idea is to find the name most wish to promote, and let the rest fall away. Thus, this is a reasonable practice, especially if all are aware of the technique noted here.
You may cancel and revote.
Please vote only once. Although it is possible to game the system by voting anonymously from various IP addresses, we hope you'll vote just once. The way to ensure one vote per person is to require login, but that would also ensure a lower vote participation and one biased toward people willing to sign up for a website in general, and specifically a webiste about skating and cycling for charity.
