How I Wasted (or Enjoyed) a Morning of Danny MacAskill Trick Bike Videos

With the weather being windy and uncertain at 5:45am when we had to get going if we were going, we decided to bail again on the training ride.

We sat outside for a while around 6am looking at the wind bending the trees and looked at radar on our phones. The 20 was not worth driving that far for, and if we did the 41, we were afraid there would not be many other riders (or skaters) at our pace doing that distance.

Not wanting to be a hassle, and not wanting to face strong winds, especially if the event were not well attended, we excused ourselves (after conferring with some mates on it).

So I got an email from Sparky of the Tater Rides about some video of a rider. The video seems indie movie and I usually love that but I almost stopped it. Wow am I glad I watched.

Ghost Bike for David Sherman, Summerfield, NC Cyclist Killed by Hit and Run Driver

There's a new ghost bike locked to a sign post at the scene where a hit and run driver killed Summerfield NC cyclist David Sherman. It was dark by the time we could get up there to take photos. The bike uses different sizes of the "Share the Road In Memory of David Sherman" graphic. The top tube says, "David Sherman Oct 24 2009." The seat tube says, "Still Riding...Not Hiding...." The down tube says "'And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.' Please Drive and Ride with Love." Photos Here...

Sheldon Brown Rolls On: The Bike World Celebrates His Web and Words

The world, the internet, cycling and the art of sharing lost a major force in the form of Sheldon Brown, whose work remains at SheldonBrown.com. He was an incredible resource of cycling knowledge. By all accounts he was also a man of good humor and skateylove (bikeylove) too. Many accounts tell of his helpfulness online, by email, and in person. Timv has mentioned Sheldon often to me in our various discussions, including where I might find out more about my 1980s Centurion bike, learn about fixies, and much more.

Basic Questions About Buying a Bicycle, New or Used, Inexpensive!

I am going to need to buy my son a bike, but don't want to get overwhelmed with facts or pricing. I can't afford $100, much less $3000 for a bike. I think he'd rather have a mountain bike than a racing bike, although the reason for me buying it for him would be so he could cycle whilst I skate. I'm not opposed to him owning 2 styles for different purposes, however. I'll find a place to cram 'em into my living space, if necessary.

What are some obvious pros and cons about buying a cheapie from WalMart vs. a nicer, 2nd hand one?
