Giro d'Italia

Brief Notes on Training and Scientific Approach by Speed Skater Juerg Feldmann, Early Coach of Giro Winner, Ryder Hesjedal

The Giro is now over and the last four or five days were fun and interesting to watch. It came down to a small group of stellar riders who had outpaced their support riders for the most part. It was close down to the last few seconds and there were several impressive performances. Ryder Hesjedal became the first Canadian to win a grand tour (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta Ciclista a España). The article linked here discusses an early coach, former Swiss Speed Skater, Juerg Feldmann, and some of his methods and tools (notably the SpiroTiger, for which this might be somewhat of a PR plant?). Regardless, perhaps worth looking into for more information regarding the coach, his methods, and his training tools...

2010 Giro d'Italia starts Saturday

The 2010 Giro d'Italia begins this Saturday with an 8.4 km time trial in Amsterdam. The first grand tour of the season begins with three stages in the Netherlands before returning to Italy for the balance of the event.

While not as ceremony-heavy as last year's centennial Giro, the 2010 event could still be very interesting. There's no heavy favorite to wear the maglia rosa, and the tour returns this year to the steep climbs and spectacular views of the Dolomites.

Surprise! Lance Armstrong Drops Drug-Testing Program as Too Hard, Too Expensive

First, let me say, I want to hear from anyone who believes Lance rode clean for 7 TdF wins. I'd like to believe. I love believing. So let me know what you think if you like, even if you think I am totally wrong!

And don't get me wrong. That Livestrong thing is awesome. Now to begin...

Ahh. I get it. I have to say I was skeptical about Lance's testing program, but it appeared he had hired a reputation (I mean someone with a great reputation) who would administer the program scrupulously. Now, it turns out, maybe that was the problem?

Dopers, Testers, Tests, Lance Armstong, Tour de France, Vuelta, Giro, Garmin-Chipotle

Well the Tour de France route for 2009 has come out, and there's some new old stuff, like the Team Time Trial is back. Some say this makes Lance Armstrong more likely to show up, some say less, and he seems to want some assurances from the organizers about respectful treatment or some such.

Meanwhile Contador sounded welcoming at first, but lately perhaps less so, and Vino's name has surfaced as well. Nothing solid here from me...just some impressions.
