The date for the next SkateStrong workshop has been decided, and it is: Saturday, March 28th. Information on workshop can be found at: http://www.skatestrong.com/
For those that don't know, the workshop is a fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis Society -- 100% of the money goes to MS Society. It's for all levels, beginner to advanced. The content will vary a bit depending on who actually attends.
They told Mark DeMontis he'd never play hockey again. They were wrong. Now he's planning to skate across most of Canada this summer, despite being legally blind, all for charity, to help others like him enjoy skating and life.
DeMontis was a triple-A hockey player in Toronto with hopes of an
NCAA scholarship when he was diagnosed with Leber's optic neuropathy,
an eye disease that left him legally blind at age 17.
Hey to all. If you've missed it so far, Tour to Tanglewood this year is September 26 & 27, 2009. This is perfect, coming 2 weeks before Athens to Atlanta, so Tanglewood can be your last hard weekend of hills if you want to make it that way. Or it can be a leisurely group skate for you fasties who want a longer taper. Regardless, it's music for the soul so come join us to help people who can't.
We're hard at work on the 2nd Annual Carolina Century for MS 102/51/31/21-miler with 10 hours of support for those of you who want a nice leisurely century on 2 or more wheels. This year's date is Oct 24, 2009. More info soon. For now, here's what it was like last year.

The latest info on our skride will always be at CarolinaCentury.com (currently, this page).
Mileage options: 20, 40 or 60 miles. 60 milers leave at 9am (wow that sounds wonderful after a whole summer of getting up at 5.30am for training rides!), 20 & 40 milers leave at 10am. This is a cycling event but the GVC folks usually let us join in on skates! Not sure how late the course is open, but there are rest stops and a SAG, as well as 'food and drink' at the finish.
I was just wondering, for those who did the 2008 Tour to Tanglewood, how did it go? Tell us whatever you can while you can still remember it. Share stuff about...
Bicycle Toy & Hobby Sales gaves us a great skate and ride last weekend, even considering some rough road (not the worst gatorback by far, but not as great as the rest) on the spur out to and around Abbotts Creek. We had nice skaters, 4 veterans of T2T and 5 who have yet to experience the glorious weekend...but most plan to.
