Seems Like Inline Skating Aligns the Electrons in My Brain: Study Shows Benefits of Aerobic Exercise

I often tell people who ask (and some who don't) that inline skating for one to several hours aligns my brain. I don't mean anything specific really, but things go better with eating, sleeping, doing, and thinking if I've been skating lately. Sometimes one day of four to six hours of not particularly difficult or fast skating can really improve the look of the world. Well that's me. What do the mice think? Or rather, what do scientists who study mice think.

Check out the article below if my snips are not making sense. Or go run on a mouse wheel for awhile and try again! Seriously the article is done well.

First, in a recent study, they wanted to

figure out how important physical activity is for generating or growing new neurons in the hippocampus.

To see whether exercise or other factors in the mouse's environment were boosting neurogenesis they designed a study with four groups:

Multiple Sclerosis: Many Scars Damaging Nerves and How and Why You Can Help with Treatment and Research

The party's over. Part of it was canceled by the Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hanna. We still skated and rode and had a great time!

However, while the Tour to Tanglewood for Multiple Sclerosis was delayed and shortened and is now over, for everyone with MS--and everyone who cares for them--the disease goes on.

So we need to keep going. Let's help them. Will you help me help them?

2008.04.28 8:00 pm

I received an email today from Stacey White, part of GT speed team, who is sponsoring the Marathon through the gardens in GA next month. They are involved in a fundraiser to help out Joshua Zalunardo, who was diagnosed with Brain Stem Glioma, a life threatening for of cancer. I know a lot of people on this site support many worthwhile causes and thought I would pass this on. Our money and time goes to help someone and we get to have fun doing it.

I have pasted the contents of her email with all the pertinant info...

Helmets couldn't be more important (Snowboard Skateboard Skate Bike)

This week I've had the pleasure of meeting a distant in-law family from Italy. They are here to see how Duke Med. Ctr. can help their son Evan. Evan is now 24. When he was 21 he took a nasty snowboard spill, struck his head, had a headache but finished the day on the slopes. Days later the headache persisted but was starting to subside so his father Salvatore took him to the local hospital. After some brief testing he was advised to take it easy, take some pain meds, and come back if it didn't fully subside.

How I Lost Two Afternoons Happily: Georgia Aquarium and Web Cam

Well I held on the my sign of the beast 666 skateylove ranking long enough. It's time to let it go. What better way than to lose myself under water, sort of. An aquarium within a zoo. I'll explain.
