Photos, Speed Topo Map, 3-D Thumbnail Map from Tour de Lions 2009 Bike Ride Inline Skate (Skride) in Grays Chapel NC![]() Submitted by roadskater on May 18, 2009 - 1:06pm.
The 215 photos that made the final cut for the Tour de Lions 2009 gallery are now geocoded, thanks to eebee's .tcx file. My 305 was locked up and I didn't yet know how to unlock it (see http://roadskater.net/how-reboot-garmin-forerunner-305-locked-when-recharging-cradle-and-wont-power for info). As a result, there are some photos where she was up ahead waiting on me to finish snappin' so the location is not exact, but they're close.

It looks like those multiple extra over-the-air 24-hour weather channels may get some other use on free over the air digital television...long track speed skating, short track speed skating, cycling, ice hockey, marathons, track and field, even curling.

Bob Bobarazzi Ryan (Thirstydog) Pastel of 2008 Athens to Atlanta (A2A) based on Roadskater.net Photo![]() Submitted by roadskater on March 4, 2009 - 9:23am.
I finally got around to asking the thirstydog himself, Bob "Bobarazzi" Ryan if I could upload his pastel of one of my photos (see the bottom of the article for the pastel). He explained that it is one of his favorite spots but not one where he usually has his camera out (I agree and until this year with a smaller camera, I think it was the same for me). Bob said...

Dutch Win but USA Men Do Well in the ISU World Junior Speedskating Championships in Zakopane Poland. Outdoors! Beautiful! Photos![]() Submitted by roadskater on February 26, 2009 - 3:34am.
The ISU World Junior Speedskating Championships took place in Zakopane, Poland last weekend. Wow. This event like it would be amazing fun for participants. I'm not sure about spectators if they didn't like the cold. But look how beautiful it was there! Well a bit snowy some of the time for skating maybe? Who cares! The event has a nice website with some good photos. If you have a minute to watch the video...do it.
China, South Korea, Netherlands Strong in Speed Skating at the Harbin World Winter Universiade (University Games) Photos![]() Submitted by roadskater on February 26, 2009 - 12:35am.
There's a whole lot of skating going on in Harbin (Haerbin) China. I've been following some of the stories and looking at photos this week, without a whole lot to say about it, since I don't know much about these young athletes. Here's one way to find some good stuff... http://search.news.cn/language/search.jspa?id=en&t=1&t1=0&ss=&ct=&n1=speedskating
Yum! Lucky 32 Recipes Video Mardis Gras & More: Red Beans & Rice, Creole Sauce, Paneed Pork, White Chocolate Banana Bread Foster![]() Submitted by roadskater on February 24, 2009 - 5:20pm.
OK. I used to eat at Lucky 32 often, maybe twice weekly sometimes, and I love how it's a nice place to go eat where you can dress up if you like, or not. I have always loved the decor and the graphics of their marketing. I get a real kick out of how they had fabric made for their upholstery that carries forth the L32 motif. That L32 logo is genius (you can see it at the bottom of this article).
Watch Tour of California 2009 Bike Race Pro Cycling Live Free Internet GPS Maps Standings Finish Times Course Profiles![]() Submitted by roadskater on February 14, 2009 - 5:16pm.
Yes it will be live on Vs. network, but I don't get that, having given up cable vision (though I still have cable internet, hoping to ditch that for fiber optic). It appears there'll be live video (at least one stream) plus gps This article is about the technology used for the official tracker site...
Peace and Slimness Without Diets![]() Submitted by eebee on February 9, 2009 - 9:28pm.
Twenty years ago you may have seen the book with the catchy title "Dieting Makes You Fat", by Geoffrey Cannon and Hetty Einzig. Even though I was a skinny child and have never been morbidly obese, or even just obese, I have subjected myself and my loved ones to dieting hell.
Promote Inline Skating & Cycling Like a Bacon Explosion![]() Submitted by roadskater on January 29, 2009 - 8:08pm.
Have you heard of the Bacon Explosion? If so, how did you learn about it (really, post a reply if you feel up to it? For me, it was one of my favorite places, the "most-emailed" section of the New York Times website. But for many, it seems it started with Twitter, then was boosted by StumbleUpon and probably Digg. You may be saying, "huh?" OK. First of all, a Bacon Explosion is a food item, some would say, and a very pig-oriented one, as it is made of...

Help How To Apache2 Server Access Log Lists Only IP Address 127.0.0.1 (Every Line): Squid, Varnish or Other Reverse Proxy![]() Submitted by roadskater on January 28, 2009 - 7:10am.
Pulling through the trees of Ubuntu Server 8.10 (aka Intrepid Ibex), Memcache, Squid, Varnish, APC, PHP, Apache, MySQL and other LAMPmines, it's easy enough to miss a note here and there. One of those sour notes I hit continued unnoticed until I checked the server logs and every line began with 127.0.0.1, the local loopback address.
Holiday Shopping Deals That Help Roadskater.net Too: Forerunner 305 for just $150, Much More![]() Submitted by roadskater on November 28, 2008 - 3:46am.
Some have asked if there's a way to help Roadskater.net other than donating money, and here is one that won't cost anything. In general, if you plan to buy anything on ebay.com or amazon.com, if you can visit roadskater.net and do the first search from the sidebar ebay and amazon search boxes, that helps (especially if you end up joining ebay and buying or selling something not long afterward).
How to Report an Error (Mistake, Bug) in Google Maps Navteq or Teleatlus Data![]() Submitted by roadskater on October 21, 2008 - 2:02am.
While working on development of a route I have been using mapmyride.com and have found it very useful, but when it comes to a left off of Vernon Rd onto Sandy Cross Rd to get to the store at Sandy Cross (upon the location of which Google, Yahoo and Mapquest seem not to agree), everything goes hayougetoffomycloudwire. Part of the road is missing from the map overlay, but it's clearly visible in the satellite view (though in some sat views I can see the road blocks from some previous construction destruction.

What's Up With Hyper Hyperformance +G and Mach 2 100mm Inline Speed Skate Wheels? Your A2A Choice?![]() Submitted by roadskater on September 24, 2008 - 5:32am.
Hi to all. With A2A What's up with Hyper wheels in general, 100mm in particular, and Hyperformance +G and Mach 2, more specifically? eebee and I are scouting around for at least 12 100mm and 4 84mm and we found one spot that seems to have them, but only one we ever heard of. Now I'm not against low-fame websites, ha, but seriously where have all the Hypers gone? Anybody have a great source? What have you been using and are they worth the money?

Watch Tour de Georgia Cycling Video and GPS Tracking Free Online![]() Submitted by roadskater on April 23, 2008 - 12:58pm.
Wow. Really great stuff and sorry to be late on this with the Eddy workshop and guests coming to town, but over time, free internet video and the Tour de Georgia are both getting cooler. As I had to keep telling myself last weekend, I can't leave town right now with lots to do and some of it requiring me to be here, so I will have to enjoy this opportunity from afar it seems. If anyone thinks they want to get a carpool together later in the week, let me know (I know I'm dreamin').
Roadskater.net Back and the United States Postal Service Now USP not USPS![]() Submitted by roadskater on April 16, 2008 - 4:09pm.
Just a quick note to say sorry RSN was down a while. I had a power supply burn out and take along his mother on the way out. Thanks to timv for assistance in the effort to deny it was really dead with various parts to test. Thanks to tax day for making it all more pressure-packed, and to the USPS folk who were NOT THERE when I arrived with my usual at my usual 11:45 p.m. celebratory time. Sad. Bad enough to not have Krispy Kreme doughnuts and coffee. Worse still to see a lobby and parking lot full of people wondering what's up with that?

Bont Semi-Race and Apache Speed Skates Inline Skates Rollerblades on eBay![]() Submitted by roadskater on March 19, 2008 - 5:17pm.
I just saw an email search result that seems like a good starting price on eBay. Paste this next line into a search on eBay (use the eBay search box on this page any time you want to help support roadskater.net's operating costs) and even if the current item has ended they might have relisted...the title I saw was:

Sheldon Brown Rolls On: The Bike World Celebrates His Web and Words![]() Submitted by roadskater on February 7, 2008 - 12:21am.
The world, the internet, cycling and the art of sharing lost a major force in the form of Sheldon Brown, whose work remains at SheldonBrown.com. He was an incredible resource of cycling knowledge. By all accounts he was also a man of good humor and skateylove (bikeylove) too. Many accounts tell of his helpfulness online, by email, and in person. Timv has mentioned Sheldon often to me in our various discussions, including where I might find out more about my 1980s Centurion bike, learn about fixies, and much more.
