The 2007 Tour to Tanglewood Roadskater.net team prologue skride was washed out with a
vengeance but that was fortunate, indeed. The weather had moved through faster
than initially predicted, so Saturday morning shone brightly on us with mild
temperatures. Roadskater.net had 36 members this year, 18 of which skated. Thanks
to cyclists who showed their support for roadskating by joining our team! We had
skaters from NC, GA, MI, NJ and NY this year, missing a few regulars because of the
North Shore Inline Marathon in Duluth, MN.

Saturday morning had a low of 64 degrees, which grew to 77 in the afternoon.
The tour gatekeeper asked me if we'd like to go first, and I said sure!
That got us out of the way of the start but showed they trusted us to skate
safely enough for everyone in the tour to pass us (except the ones who didn't, ha!).
One section of fresh nasty pavement with loose fine gravel caught the skaters and
cyclists worrying for equipment and skin, but we made it through.

Sunday was crisp. GSO data shows 55 degrees at 6:00 a.m., dropping to 51 at 9:00 a.m.,
then rising to 71 in the afternoon. Winds both days were 7-11 mph at GSO.
I felt grand with five or six whole hours of sleep! After talking with some key
Tour people, we took an alternate route from previous training rides and tours
on the way back to avoid the downhill left with a stop sign onto the same fresh
nasty gravel pavement from the day before. This was a great alternative. As always,
the finish line was fun but everyone was gone way too fast, leaving us to dream of
next year with friends from around the country coming to skate and bike for people
with multiple sclerosis.
