USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado Follows Tour of Utah with Top Tour de France Riders and Great Routes in the Rockies

roadskater's picture

I don't have a lot of time to discuss this right now, but I wanted to say that the upcoming USA Pro Cycling Challenge looks like a breakthrough event for the USA in terms of hosting major tours. Yes, the Tour of California had lots of talent and beautiful scenery, and the Tour of Utah built up to another level this year, but the USAPCC is a chance to see the top Tour de France riders on what look to be some great routes. Here are some links...

  • http://velonews.competitor.com/2011/08/news/where-to-watch-colorados-2011-usa-pro-cycling-challenge_187388/1 This is a resource for some maps and viewer's guides aimed at those attending, but useful to all, plus there are some videos of guys who set out to do it all but ended up not finishing. One of the climbs in not paved on the ascent!
  • http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/44162356/ns/sports-cycling/ This is a guide to five guys to watch, in case you didn't know. Cadel, Andy, Frank, Tom and Levi. This could be a great prize for Tom Danielson, who I was expecting lots from at his first Tour de France this year. He did place first among USAmericans. Not too shabby. We saw Tom climb Brasstown Bald ahead of Levi, Floyd (remember that name?) and his teammate, Lance at the 2005 Tour de Georgia. He's done well in the Vuelta and now the Tour, so maybe he's got it all for this one...and his team should have plenty of power to support him. But the competition is strong. Not sure how many will be going to the Vuelta who might be saving a little, including Tom. Hmm.
I am really looking forward to this one! Also see...

Tom Danielson and More About the USA Pro Cycling Challenge

This is a nice quick read, with a bit more background on why this should be a really exciting event. I think Colorado has the exercise fanatics who will come out and support the race, and understand what is happening. I'm really looking forward to this one.
