Tour to Tanglewood 2008 Sunday Speed Topo Route Map: Bike Ride Inline Skate for Multiple Sclerosis

The Tour to Tanglewood 2008 was shortened to Sunday-only due to the storm, Hanna, which made conditions unpredictable and untenable for an official Saturday ride from Greensboro to Clemmons. The Sunday event had three distances of roughly 25ish, 46 and 74 miles. I took the 46 mile route with eebee and we took it at touring pace, snapping lots of photos and taking in the sights along the way. My speed topo map is at this link: http://roadskater.net/photos/tour-to-tanglewood-2008-greensboro-clemmons...

Tour to Tanglewood Update Inline Skate Bike Ride Hurricane Hanna

Here's the latest word from the Tour to Tanglewood Bike Ride & Inline Skate. We're on, provisionally, for Saturday, and it is very likely there will at least be a Sunday ride & skate. Again, while I'm not a wxpert, I believe Saturday will be a go as well. But it's not up to me, thank goodness! Here's the word from Derrick Huff:

2008.09.06 7:30 am
2008.09.07 3:00 pm
Come out and skate or cycle up to 100 miles with us on September 6th & 7th 2008 to benefit those suffering from the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis. After Saturday's skate/ride from Volvo Trucks North America in Greensboro to Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, hang out and mingle with other event participants: eat, drink and be proud of yourself for skating that far. Camp out at the campsite or in a nearby hotel room for much-deserved sleep, wake up next day and give your body another great workout skating (or cycling) back to Greensboro for lunch!

Rollerblading Inline Skating Artist from Vermont Paints with Skates

Here's a brief article about an artist who likes to paint with her skates. It might be a new way to paint, but it's not really a new way to skate, methinks. Vermont seems like a pretty nice place to live...summer at least! Probably I'd get used to dealing with snow again, and I might even get addicted to skiing again...or outdoor ice...but right now, I'm imagining snotcicles and it just has no appeal! Talk about gunk in your bearings, I'd say this painting is a bit messy but really how far do you have to go to skate on a canvas?

Google Chrome Good Stuff But Careful Where You Use It for Now

Today or yesterday was the beta release of Google Chrome, a fast new browser that's free to download and use. At first blush it seems snappier than even Firefox 3. If you're using Internet Explorer, I recommend you get Firefox 3 and Google Chrome and look at both. If you have Firefox 3, Chrome is still worth a look: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ www.google.com/chrome

USA Cyclist Levi Leipheimer Takes Vuelta (Tour of Spain) Fifth Stage ITT and GC Lead

Now, something to cheer about! You never know about people really, but I've seen Levi in person and on streaming video and I can tell you there were awesome performances, but nothing that seemed "unbelievable," like some other performances I've seen. I'll never know if Levi is clean, just like I thought it was certain that others were, but seeing Levi almost but not quite do it several times leads me to believe in him. Having said that, joining Astana and linking with some I've begun to doubt still makes me wonder, which is sad.

David Zabriske (Time Trial) and Doper Tyler Hamilton (Road Race) Wear the Red White and Blue as USA Cycling Pro Champions

I noticed in the righthand sidebar that non-phantom twin Tyler Hamilton has returned from his doping suspension to win the USA Cycling Pro road cycling championship by .002 seconds after 4h38m19s in and around Paris Mountain and Greenville, South Carolina. Much is made in the story of Hamilton's achievements without mentioning that whole doping thing (or maybe I missed it) and how some of those accomplishments may have occurred outside the bounds of legal racing.

Tour de Moore for Habitat for Humanity Bike Ride Welcomes Roadskater.net Inline Skaters

2008.09.01 8:30 am
2008.09.01 5:00 pm
Wow this is some great news. The much-respected Tour de Moore has invited us to join them for the Sandhills Cycling Club's main event hits the road Labor Day. I sent an inquiry earlier this week to Rainbow Cycles and received this reply:
Yes we’d love to have road skaters at our event.  It looks like it will be a perfect day in the 80’s with some clouds.  You can register at active.com or print our registration form from our website sandhillscyclingclub.org.  How many skaters will you bring?
