Yum! Lucky 32 Recipes Video Mardis Gras & More: Red Beans & Rice, Creole Sauce, Paneed Pork, White Chocolate Banana Bread Foster

OK. I used to eat at Lucky 32 often, maybe twice weekly sometimes, and I love how it's a nice place to go eat where you can dress up if you like, or not. I have always loved the decor and the graphics of their marketing. I get a real kick out of how they had fabric made for their upholstery that carries forth the L32 motif. That L32 logo is genius (you can see it at the bottom of this article).

Courtesy to all, regardless of apparent rank or fortunes, has been a constant theme. I really appreciate that. Sometimes you want to go skate or golf or run or get some other exercise, then go eat a really nice, healthy (or not!) meal, without a lot of fuss, but in a refined but informal atmosphere. That's how Lucky 32 strikes me.

Well, Lucky 32 is making a bit of a media splash of late, which I am sure coincides with hard times and the $10 off $32 coupons that mailing list members have been getting. Sweet! Their newsletter has often included favorite recipes, which I think is simply awesome. I have some of these scraps of newsletter in case some of my favorites disappear (and I get culinarious once again).

Now that's coordinated media. Nicely done. And no, I'm not pals with or family with or investor with the people who run the restaurant or their hotels. I've just had many wonderful experiences at Lucky 32 with friends, mostly roadskaters and cyclists or family who love us!

Over many years I have had almost zero problems with service...very few. We skaters have shown up with only partial RSVP response and late requests for space, and in most cases (with a few exceptions, especially when we had maybe 30 show up for dinner the night before the Tour to Tanglewood skate for Multiple Sclerosis, flying and driving in, showing up at various times, sometimes unannounced) service and food have come out nicely. Even when things went slightly awry, I can tell they really want to please. That starts with them asking if you prefer a standard gratuity for a party to be added, or if you want to add that yourself.

I think the key is training--and evaluating--the staff, and keeping people who understand and fit with the goals and theme of the place. It seems they do well.

As the economy (and sometimes just my part of it) has gotten tighter and I have needed to get control of my spending I had to consider Lucky 32 less often for myself, but just as often for a small or large group of friends to be able to have a nice dinner with conversation.

Sometimes things drift off track, maybe, as they dropped the raspberry dipping sauce from the baked half chicken and began to cook it differently perhaps when chefs changed? I dream about that raspberry dipping sauce sometimes when skating. Like everywhere, portions at times have shrunk as they held the line on prices, or prices have gone up as everywhere. But I love knowing there's a place I can afford even on a budget if I order wisely, and that they'll treat me just as well as the folk who are dressed up and discussing the new furniture line with a USA name but made in China that we'll all simply have to have two years from now.

Thanks for sharing your recipes, Lucky 32. Even though you know I'd rather go to the restaurant and I'm not so likely to cook these meals, it's nice of you...and wise marketing...to share!

Great call on Lucky 32

You sure hit a home run with that review.  Lucky 32 is a very nice restaurant.  Fortunately I have an "in" - my daughter is an assistant manager at the Cary, NC location.

One great evening was for a cook book signing - southern cooking by the Lee Brothers.  1/3rd of the restaurant was devoted to a book signing / reception / taste testing with the restaurant menu based on their recipes.  It was out of this world!
