California Women Love Pandemic Roller Skating They Say

Imagine that! Women in California like to go roller skating. I think that has been true for some time, but it does seem that roller skating, quad and inline, is on the rise during the time of the pandemic. Of course, they're not worried about helmets or wrists or masks or viruses, as long as we can see their hair and smiles. Maybe the appeal of skating is that it feels a bit dangerous in such a safe time? Ha. Well, it's good to see people skating!

Yes People Do Still Figure Skate on Quad Roller Skates and They're Doing it Now on the Internet Free

Not much time to comment, but while looking up some results from the USARS speed skating, I noticed that the streaming links for that are still working. The current competition is figures and it appears to be compulsory routines. There's a chat box so you can learn a bit about what's going on. I don't know why but this gave me some encouragement at times today when I needed a short break. It's fun to see people enjoying the various ways of rolling on various kinds of skates. Looks like pairs is beginning as I wrap this. They're a couple of hours behind schedule, it seems!

Great Gallery of Fun Roller Skating Photos from San Francisco

I won't spend much time describing this gallery but let me say it is a really fun look at photos of the type you take with black and white film, you dodge and burn, you hold in your hands, mark up for cropping, and put in the newspaper. I also usually stay away from comments after most newspaper or television website articles, but I looked at these and I was glad. Most were happy. Some were very well written and added to the positive aura of the page. What I notice is what so many noticed, that these were shots of people having fun skating. I hope today's kids are having as much fun as safely as these. And notice how many adults are in on the fun too.

Roller Skating for...Women Old Enough to Know Better

This originally was a comment to Roadskater's article A Simple Introduction to High Intensity Interval Training for Cardiovascular Fitness, but I got so excited about it, it deserves to appear on the main page.

I tried the 'more' link in the sidebar and found exciting stuff I would not have otherwise, such as this:

30,000-Square-Foot Roller Rink Opens in Manhattan 8th Ave 59th Street New York City

While researching some roller and inline topics last night I came across a wonderful news item about the first night in a new skating rink about to open. With 30,000 square feet of rolling space, this place would hold a ton of skaters for a fad sweeping the nation. In December of 1884. Almost 125 years ago! Name Survey: North Carolina Walk Roll Human Powered Transportation Alternatives Bike Group

Here are the results of the second name survey for the NC Walk & Roll Human-Powered Transportation Alternatives Bike/Walk Group or whatever it is to be called. I was happy to see Walk & Roll and other inclusive names do so well. I had thought there would be more votes overall, but everyone had a chance to vote, so there it is.

Misty's 2006 A2A journal entry

My 2006 A2A story: (a bit long-winded, but fun to remember anyhow.)

***Before reading this story, please note that I skated the A2A on quads, not inlines. This might help explain some of my equipment 'issues'.
