226 Cover Songs for Your Pandemic Pleasure and Pain

I'm up to 226 songs now since April 10 as I learn my way back from years of doing other fun things besides playing and singing. See the links below. This is for you, because I already know all the mistakes, and I am hoping you won't catch all of them.

Skating American Tobacco Trail, plus Toad the Wet Sprocket and Mark Kano of Athenaeum at Cat's Cradle Aug 10 2011

I'm in Chapel Hill at the Panera. I came down to do something near Cat's Cradle in Carrboro this morning. Then I was (and am) planning to do the American Tobacco Trail Wednesday night social skate, as I hear Jay from Atlanta may be rolling in, and Tom GotSkates is likely there, plus skatey-mark and more.

On the way into town I saw a bus that looked like a rock band bus...nice, but not announcing who they are...toting a trailer, too. I wondered who it might be, figuring they were on the way to the Cradle.

Skating Away With the Cirque du Soleil: Katie Ketchum Rolls and Balances in Buffalo, Tehachapi and Manhattan

I found the link to this article pondering about do what you love and all that over on an inline instruction email list, and they were joking about running away with the circus, so I should credit them for the idea of my title, too! I never found any video of Katie Ketchum in Cirque du Soleil, but I found two nice ones of her burning up with some sweet style on one of her favorite indoor street courses...She seems to focus on intricate, precise landings, but can pop a spin (see 0:52 or so). Mostly though it's less rotational and more flowing moves with stylish finishes...

Some New Roadskater.net Website Stuff

So I've been busy working on some background stuff for Roadskater.net and I thought Solstice was a good time to unveil some of it. This is just a perhaps brief update.

Ice Skating Treadmill; Plus OK Go "Here It Goes Again" Music Video

Thanks to a skating newsletter from Londonskaters Mike, here's a link to a video about Cornell University's ice hockey training 'treadmill'. Huh? How'd they get the ice to wrap around like that? ;-)

I wonder why they need a harness to skate uphill? And sure, pavement/wheel friction complicates things, but a pair of inlines plus a hill would probably be cheaper.

The New York Times Weighs in on Workout Music

I love music maybe more than anything else, both playing it and listening to it. I always have something playing when I'm at my desk or reading or in a car, and there's an unplugged electric guitar leaning against the desk 18 inches from my right elbow right now, in case I hear something that I want to play along with. But I've never liked carrying music when I skate or run or ride a bike.

Almost Naked Skaters Rocking and Rollerblading (Inline Skating) with Motorscooter in Minneapolis

OK. I just said "almost naked" to get your attention. These guys are less naked than many men on euproean beaches, from what I hear. It's really a combination joke on the movie title, Almost Famous, and referring back to discussion on someone promoting skating with nudity. I have a double standard about skin and skating. If it's the typical sell it with a naked person (typically, it seems, a woman) trying to be so hot, I don't like it. Selling skating with nude photos seems cheesy to me, and doesn't really reflect well on the sport or the manufacturers.

Kudos to Greensboro NC for Center City Park Wireless WiFi Access

Hello to all after a few days away when even RSN2.com took a day or two off! I'm sitting in Greensboro's Center City Park using the Wifi connection, and I must say this is nice. At about 8pm, the light is fading and the temperature is cooling a bit from a nice warm day. I decided against skating for several reasons, one being the orange level air quality warning, a very late schedule of sleeping and waking, and some work that needed to be done.

Thinking About Stuff

Things that have been on my mind, none big enough unto itself to warrant a blog entry:

--

Knoppix recommends having at least 128MB of RAM "to use the various office products," but even 256 can be pretty painful if you do much of it, and 512MB is way better.
